If you've never attended the annual Cool House Tour, you're in for a treat. Mark your calendar for Sunday, June 5. We know lots of people who never miss it! This year, our "Rock Star" home at 1804 Johnson Way in Round Rock is one of the 16 homes selected for the tour. This is the home of Karen and Dan Cripe, the zero-energy home we've been talking about all year. The tour sponsors describe it as "a classroom for the community." We hope you'll stop and visit. Sponsored by the Texas Solar Energy Society and the Austin Green Building Program, this year's tour features homes that "exemplify the benefits and beauty of a whole-house approach to design and construction: proper orientation, comfort, energy water and material efficiency, durability and low maintenance, and healthy and safety."
It's a great way to collect information and ideas for your own home.
Go to the Cool House Tour web site to view the guidebook. It costs $15 to get the guidebook and tour all the homes. Because Karen and Dan's home is so far north, they're offering a special $5 price at the door to visit just this one home. This doesn't include a guidebook, but there's plenty to be learned at this home that is well worth the visit.
We'll be looking for you.
